Suzanne LaFrance for Mayor
Anchorage, AK: The release of the first campaign finance reports in the Anchorage mayoral race show Suzanne LaFrance is the frontrunner to challenge Dave Bronson. LaFrance outraised Bronson, the incumbent, and raised more than the other two major challengers combined.
LaFrance also has more than six times the cash on hand than the other two challengers combined.
“The reality is you cannot win a mayoral election without the money needed to communicate with voters,” said Jim Lottsfeldt, an Alaska political strategist. “This financial report shows that we have a two-person race for mayor between Dave Bronson and Suzanne LaFrance.”
LaFrance’s fundraising numbers are impressive by historical standards. At this point in the previous mayoral election, Dave Bronson had raised $164,636 and Forrest Dunbar had raised $203,890. LaFrance’s fundraising total outpaces what both Dunbar and Bronson raised by tens of thousands of dollars.
“It’s clear that Anchorage residents are lining up behind the most experienced candidate for the job,” said Ivy Spohnholz, former Alaska State House Representative. “She’s winning on endorsements. She’s winning on fundraising. It’s going to be Suzanne that defeats Dave Bronson.”
LaFrance’s strong finance report comes on the heels of winning the most organizational endorsements of any candidate running, including over 15 labor organizations representing over 50,000 hardworking Alaskans. She is the only candidate endorsed by local police and fire union PACs, as well as the public employees who would work for her as mayor.
